Healthcare that belongs in the neighbourhood

Maison Médicale Peterbos is a new multidisciplinary health center in the Peterbos neighbourhood in Anderlecht, established on the initiative of SAAMO's community work in response to the urgent need for accessible primary healthcare.

Why this project?

For five years, Peterbos had no general practitioner at all. For 4,000 residents, this meant: traveling kilometers for simple consultations, queuing at overcrowded practices, or simply going without necessary care. People living in poverty, those with chronic conditions like diabetes, or with limited mobility were particularly affected.

Four years ago, SAAMO conducted an extensive health survey with the community center. The conclusion was crystal clear: there was an urgent need for structural and accessible care. But we didn't sit still. While waiting for a definitive solution, we already started preventive actions: exercise groups (walking, light gymnastics, boxing and dancing), smoking cessation support, diabetes screenings, consultations with a primary care psychologist, and annual vaccination campaigns.

Since January 2026, we've been open with two general practitioners and a dedicated team. Our appointment books are filling up, trust is growing, and the warmth of our collaboration with local residents confirms it: this care belongs here.

Our ambition: from basic to multidisciplinary and preventive

We dream realistically, but big. In addition to the 2 family doctors, we're welcoming our first nurse in March. We already offer consultations with a primary care psychologist and a tobacco cessation specialist. By 2027, we want to add a physiotherapist. And eventually? A dental practice, because the need there is equally urgent.

But medical care alone isn't enough. We continue to focus on prevention and health promotion: exercise groups, smoking cessation support, nutrition workshops, and psychological support. These activities were already part of SAAMO's community work and are now structurally embedded in the health center. This way, we don't just focus on healing, but above all on staying healthy.

To make this growth happen, we need €170,000. We'll invest this amount in:

• Recruiting and training additional healthcare professionals
• Expanding our infrastructure (treatment rooms, medical equipment)
• Strengthening our multidisciplinary services
• Continuing and expanding prevention and health promotion activities

What is a Community Health Centre?

	Why Socrowd? Socrowd provides affordable financing for projects with positive societal impact, while helping to strengthen our clients' networks. One third of the loan amount is raised from the client’s supporters through the purchase of Socrowd shares. Socrowd then triples this amount and provides it to the client as an interest-free loan. Supporters can purchase one or more shares, each valued at €100. There is no maximum investment limit. Shares may be purchased for oneself, for another person (e.g., spouse, (grand)child), or on behalf of a company or legal entity. Once the loan is repaid, investors can sell their shares back to Socrowd. Since its founding in 2004, Socrowd has financed more than 165 social projects, with a total investment of €10 million. We operate in Flanders and Brussels across the following sectors: healthcare and wellbeing, social economy, socio-cultural work, education, ecology, and international cooperation.
